Monthly Wrap-Up: September ’22

The end of September kind of snuck up on me. I think this is largely in part because I am celebrating Latinx Heritage Month which begins in the middle of September and we’re only half-way through that. My brain is trying to keep track of two different calendars and apparently rebelling. So September started off slow for me. I only got to three books in the first two weeks, but then LHM started and I wanted to get to so many books that I ended up reading six more in the latter part of the month. I was able to pick up nine books in total including an ARC that I was afraid I was going to have to put off. Overall, it felt like a really productive month and I am looking forward to finishing LHM off strong. I saved the more horror-esque reads for October and also checked out a couple of books from the library to round out the spooky reads. I am also finally decorating for Halloween! You have no idea how excited I am!

Favorite Books in September:

I am sharing two books as my favorites this month. Karla Cornejo Villavicencio’s The Undocumented Americans is an incredibly powerful memoir about some of the most invisible Latinx immigrants in this country. It made me sad, reflective, and angry. Definitely a read I won’t soon forget. Erin E. Adam’s Jackal was my final read of the month and it was the perfect book to usher in horror season. I am so impressed by this debut. I don’t want to say too much as I should have a review up in the next day or so, but if you like town secrets and monsters in the woods, add this to your TBR. Covers linked to Goodreads.

Least Favorite Book This Month:

No book received less than three stars from me.

What I Watched/Am Watching:

Hellraiser (1987) – I’m sure I’ve mentioned this on this blog at some point, but I have this deep-seated fear of Pinhead stemming from my childhood when I watched the original movies at probably too young an age. I haven’t seen them since. But then they went and made the new remake of it (coming out October 7th on Hulu!) and I had to watch the trailer. I am very very intrigued. So now here I am, trying to overcome my childhood fear and watching the original movies. I’ve only watched the first one and it didn’t cause too much panic in me, so onward I go…

Suspicious Partner – I am in the middle of Suspicious Partner and am really enjoying it. I am such a sucker for the slow burn and the two leads have some great chemistry. I’m only a tad annoyed at how they portray defense lawyers versus prosecutors.

  1. Looks like you read some good books this past month! I did a display for Latinx Heritage month last year, but with unpacking my library still from renovations this year, I haven’t done any displays yet sadly. Next year I can’t wait to do it again! Hope you have a good October!

  2. Great post! Sounds like you had a great reading month, that’s awesome! I am currently reading the second book in The Summer I Turned Pretty series, I have about 70 pages or so before I finish reading it.

I love Halloween! I didn’t really care for this summer because every day was like a heat wave, so I’m so happy that Fall is here and with it brings cooler weather, finally!

My next book read is going to be the last book in The Summer I Turned Pretty series, but after that I’m finally going to try and get to some thrillers I have been wanting to read such as Final Girls by Riley Sager and The Weekend Away by Sarah Alderson.
