Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Book Quote Freebie.” Please tell me I’m not the only one who dreads when we have to do a quote topic for TTT. I am the worst at keeping track of quotes and have actually somehow gotten worse these past few years. So what can I possibly do with this week’s topic? How about something equal parts fun and chaotic? I am pulling ten random TBR books from my shelf, turning to a random page (a very early page because I don’t want spoilers) and sharing the first quote I see. Maybe this will motivate me to pick these up…Covers linked to Goodreads.
1. No Filter and Other Lies by Crystal Maldonado
“Not that I’m not cute. Because I’m CUTE, okay? These brows? These curls? These eyes-so-brown they look like the rich soil of the earth? This melanated skin? This body?”
2. The All-Consuming World by Cassandra Khaw
“It was her or the rest of us. If I’d tried, we’d have all died.”
3. Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie
“I didn’t know bananas were good for roses.”
4. Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson
“Forgive me, Father. You’re the first man I’ve seen in years.” When he only stared at me, I clarified, “The first living man. I’ve seen plenty of dead ones.”
5. Stormsong by C.L. Polk
“Is it true they can’t lie?”
6. Black Water Sister by Zen Cho
“Why shouldn’t she be picky? You have to work for most of your life. Might as well find something she likes.”
7. Unbroken by C.L. Clark
“They’re making us live on the scraps of the city. The old Medina used to be beautiful. Look at this.”
8. She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
“One day soon our ancestors will intervene to end this suffering. They will.”
9. Witchlings by Claribel A. Ortega
“Witchlings, prepare your amulets!”
10. The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton
Have you read any of these? Which of these quotes is the most intriguing? Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave me a link to your own TTT post, so I can visit!“Children, say your farewells, and let us fly, shall we?”
I love reading favorite quotes. I bet you had fun searching these out. My quotes

You aren’t alone in not collecting quotes. I just don’t do it; I feel like it takes me out of the book. I love how you did it this week and may have to steal it for a future quote TTT.

I actually wish I was better at it, but like you, I think I’m just too into the story to pause and write them down. Yes, please do!

That Vespertine quote made me laugh! This is a good idea, I may use it the next time we have to do a quote post.

I so know what you mean for the quotes posts! That’s why I always pick from my favorite books which are highlighted and annotated more and more with every re-reads. But you did a great job with this post because I haven’t read any of these books, but now I want to (especially The Unbroken and Vespertine)?

Great approach! I ended up not doing the topic at all, since I didn’t have to energy to work hard enough to come up with quotes. Wish I had thought of your way of doing it! Hmmm, maybe for a future freebie topic… In any case, I love the line from The Marvellers — makes me want to read the book!

Yes, do it. It was actually really fun and I will probably do it again in the future. Yes, can’t wait to get to The Marvellers.

Your twist is so fun! One of the reasons I like reading ebooks is the ease of highlighting, but I have been known to snap a picture of a quote with my phone while reading a physical book so I can go back to it later. I try to do as little as possible to avoid pulling myself out of the reading experience. 😉

That’s a great idea and something I should do more of when I pick up ebooks.

Haha, I’m bad about keeping track of quotes too. If I didn’t have Goodreads, I’d never be able to do a quotes topic. 🙂
