Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Dynamic Duos .” Who else struggled with this week’s topic? Instead of duos, all I could come up with were ensembles (saving these for a freebie topic in the future). But still sticking with this topic’s essence, I decided to go with dynamic duologies! Duologies have become much more popular and there are times when I really prefer them to trilogies or series. I am also including on this list companion novels because although they aren’t technically sequels, together they make a dynamic duo (see what I did there?). Covers linked to Goodreads.
1. The Wrath and the Dawn & The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh
2. The Star-Touched Queen & A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi
3. Empire of Sand & Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri
4. We Hunt the Flame & We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal
5. We Set the Dark on Fire & We Unleash the Merciless Storm by Tehlor Kay Mejia
6. Sal and Gabi Break the Universe & Sal and Gabi Fix the Universe by Carlos Hernandez
7. Empress of a Thousand Skies & Blood of a Thousand Stars by Rhoda Belleza
8. Wildwood Dancing & Cybele’s Secret by Juliet Marillier
9. Forest of a Thousand Lanterns & Kingdom of the Blazing Phoenix by Julie C. Dao
10. The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You & Not Now, Not Ever by Lily Anderson
Do you have a favorite duology? Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave me a link to your own TTT post, so I can visit!
I did duologies too!!! I have been preferring them to trilogies lately! They just get to the point faster lol. I have We Hunt the Flame on my TBR for next month and I’m excited!

Yes, great minds! That and not having to wait years for a story to come to a conclusion are reasons why duologies are actually amazing. I love love love We Hunt the Flame. I actually will probably reread that duology this year, I love it so much.

Yes!! Cutting the wait time for the whole story is a huge plus! Yay, I’m soooo excited now!! I can’t wait to get to it bc I’ve heard such good things.

Duologies are pretty awesome! Less waiting time too 😉 So many of these I still have to read like Sal & Gabi,We Set the Dark on Fire and The Star Touched Queen ❤

Yep, less waiting time is truly a blessing. I’m less likely to forget everything. Sal & Gabi is the funniest MG I’ve ever read. We Set the Dark on Fire felt so groundbreaking, seeing a Latinx sapphic couple at its center. And I cannot gush enough about Roshani Chokshi’s writing. A Crown of Wishes is actually my favorite book by her.

I actually found the pb’s of sal & gabi cheap so I ordered them both 😀

Oooo duologies, a great take on the theme! I found the concept daunting but then increasingly fun and surprised myself that I managed to come up with ten quite quickly!
These are the character duos that I loved and found dynamic!

Duologies are a favorite topic today! I am trying to think which I’ve read… None on your list though. But I will take a look, perhaps I can add a set and stop wrecking my brain.
Happy TTT!

I love duologies. Definitely easier to keep up with than a full series.

Tasha Suri is one of my favorite writers. She’s so good with world-building and slow-burn romance. I can’t recommend her enough. I hope you love We Hunt the Flame. It’s incredible!

I love this twist on the topic! I wish I would have thought of it. I might have to do it later.

Ah, what a great approach to the topic! I just bypassed it completely this week, since I didn’t want to do a “couples” post and didn’t have the brain power to figure out something else. I love duologies! It’s so nice and satisfying when a great story can be told in two books. I haven’t read any of these, but my favorite duology is the Dreamhunter and Dreamquake duet — I read these a long time ago, but the concept and imagery really stayed with me!

I considered couples as well, but ultimately decided against it. I will have to look up Dreamhunter. It sounds familiar.

Sal & Gabi is amazing. It’s hilarious and I really loved how supportive the adult characters were. An overall gem.

Ooh fun way to interpret the topic! I always find that I’m left wanting with duologies, it often feels like the story is rushed and the second book ends up being a big disappointment compared to the first, though maybe that’s just me being used to reading trilogies.

It’s probably because you are used to that build up. I often find myself thinking a lot of trilogies should have been duologies because second books often feel like placeholders.

Probably, to be fair I don’t read a lot of duologies, it’s always trilogies and longer series!

I like what you did with this week’s topic! One of my favorite duologies is The Epic Crush of Genie Lo and The Iron Will of Genie Lo – those were perfect!

Great take on this topic! I have this idea I love duologies (they give you more than a standalone but without the boring middles of trilogies, lol) but I can’t think of a favourite off the top of my head… well, apart from Sal & Gabi I supppose 🙂

Duologies have been really growing on me over the years. I personally love that I don’t have to wait so long for a completed story. Sal & Gabi is amazing!
