Oh June, we did not get along. I have not felt as slumpy this year as I did in June. I wanted to read, but making myself read was incredibly difficult. Honestly, the only reason I read an average amount this month was because of a blog tour I had coming up. If it wasn’t for that, I probably would have read two books at most. So this month I picked up five books (special shout out to graphic novels for keeping me afloat the latter part of the month). Not my best, but you know, not my worst either. I did post more reviews than I have been averaging and I feel kind of proud of this. There have been months where I’ve only posted one or two reviews which is not great. So here’s the deal with my upcoming blog hiatus. I’ve been planning this for a while and will have an official announcement next weekend, but basically I won’t be back until mid-August. Usually when I take these breaks, I still read a lot, but I think I am going to make myself take at least a week and not read on purpose. I don’t remember the last time I did that. We’ll see how that goes.

Favorite Book This Month:
C.L Polk’s Witchmark was easily my favorite read of the month. I loved the world-building and the romance. It’s one of those books that I would consider a quiet fantasy and I just love those so much.
Least Favorite Book This Month:
No book received lower than three stars from me.

What I Watched/Am Watching:
Vagabond – I really enjoyed this K-Drama. It made me super emotional and I have a real soft spot for the lead. It made me want to watch more thrillers, so if you have any recs, let me know in the comments. As much as I love K-Dramas for the romance, it’s nice to get a break and the action scenes in this one were phenomenal. I didn’t know it was going to end on a cliffhanger though and season 2 hasn’t even been announced, so that’s a special kind of torture.
The K-2 – I haven’t finished this one yet, but started it because of how much i enjoyed Vagabond. I feel kind of eh about it though. I will say that it features this really great dynamic between the lead who is a bodyguard and the stepmother of the girl he is supposed to fall for. They have more chemistry than the main ship, so much so that I had to look it up to see if I was imagining all that tension and I wasn’t. There are a lot of people who love them and it’s probably my favorite thing about this show even though it clearly wasn’t done on purpose.

Yeah, these hot temperatures don’t make for ideal reading conditions.

I think taking a break, even from reading, can be a great idea sometimes. We can’t force ourselves to do something if we’re just not feeling it!

Yes, the longer I blog, the more important breaks become.

Vagabond is on my Netflix watch list and I can’t wait to try it. I just recently finished up Tunnel on Netflix which only had 1 season but it ended so well. It reminded me of a cross between the movie Memories of Murder and the tv series Life on Mars (the UK versions).

Graphic novels and verse novels have been keeping my reading afloat this year as well. (And they did last year, for that matter.) I just don’t read as much as I used to. It makes me sad, but stressing myself out about it doesn’t make it any better, so I try not to.

Yes, learning not to stress too much about not reading a lot is hard, but necessary.

Graphic novels make good slump time reading, I have found. I am sorry you hit a slump. I am not familiar with Witchmark, but it sounds wonderful. I am adding that to my wish list. I hope you have a better July!
