Monthly Wrap-Up: April ’21

Hello, friends! I feel like I’ve been more present in April, but am still struggling with the WordPress block editor, so I’ve been dragging my feet when it comes to sitting down and working on the blog. I will try to do better in May. I have several drafts that need to be rewritten with said editor and I’ve been procrastinating. Is there a WordPress block editor support group out there because I would like to join. I got my first covid vaccine shot earlier this month and am scheduled for my second next week. Crossing my fingers that I don’t have any side effects because the day after is my birthday. Speaking of my birthday, I really want to get to 900 followers on IG before then, so if you are into books by authors of color and florals, I’m your girl. You can follow me here. A little sample of the photos I take:

I didn’t read a ton this month (this is starting to become a pattern), but that’s because I picked up a new hobby. I got an early birthday present…roller skates! I have no experience, so this month has been really interesting trying to learn. I am such an overthinker and that does not always serve me well when I am trying to teach myself something where I could fall over any moment. A week ago, I went outside for only the second time and fell several times, but I got back up and that’s what’s important. If there are any fellow beginner roller skaters out there who want to start a DM group to support one another, hit me up. So I read three and a half books (I am counting this half because it’s a 500+ page book and it feels like it should count as two). Not a great number, but I am hoping to pick up the pace in May. I am still behind on my Goodreads goal and need to catch up. Wish me luck!

Favorite Book This Month:

Anna-Marie McLemore’s The Mirror Season was heartbreaking and beautiful and one of the most unforgettable books I’ve ever read. My review for this one should go up this month. Cover linked to Goodreads.

Least Favorite Book This Month:

No book received lower than three stars from me.

Top Ten Tuesday: 2021 Releases with Great Color Schemes – Take a look at some of my favorite colorful covers for 2021 releases.

What I Watched/Am Watching:

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Well this was such a fun ride! I really enjoyed the dynamics between Sam and Bucky. There were times when I wished the show would go a little further with its storylines, but it’s Marvel, so I don’t expect it to make revolutionary statements. Still, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing what happens next to these characters.

Teen Wolf – Like last month, I really wanted to watch something familiar. I haven’t seen Teen Wolf in years but really enjoyed the first few seasons and so I binged away. I am actually at the end of season 3b and am already crying knowing what happens at the end.

May Releases I’m Excited For:

Which releases are you looking forward to in May? Let’s discuss in the comments and feel free to leave me a link to your own wrap-up post and I’ll be sure to visit!

  1. I used to love roller skating around my neighborhood when I was younger, but I haven’t done it in years! Good luck! I’ve come to have a vague grasp of how to make block editor do what I need it to, but every once it a while it just completely throws a tantrum. Why WordPress, why? Congrats on your first dose and Happy Early Birthday!

  2. I wish Falcon and the Winter Soldier had been more than 6 episodes – sometimes it felt like nothing was happening and then other times things were just speeding by!

  3. Love the roller skates and books photo! I was never much into roller skating myself, but it was pretty popular way back when I was in school. I’m also in that learning curve with the block editor on WP so I can sympathize there. Visiting from FYFA monthly wrap-up #18

  4. Your pictures are so beautiful! Curious to see your review of Mirror Season, I’m planning to read it and haven’t really seen a lot of reviews.

  5. Okay, Hide and Seeker is new to me, but it looks so good! Adding to my TBR. I loved the first few seasons of Teen Wolf, but didn’t finish it because I got kind of bored the last season I think. I love the roller skate picture! I already follow you on Instagram, love your pictures!

  6. Sorry to hear the block editor is causing you such a hassle =.= Your Instagram looks SHARP though and so do those rollerskates omg the purple and teal is super cute. Sounds like a good hobby to start this summer! One May release on my radar is Ophie’s Ghosts, Justina Ireland’s first MG.

  7. Your pictures are GORGEOUS! And you are so, SO close to 900, I am crossing my fingers for you! (Also, happy birthday!) I am SO sorry about the block editor! I had to use it for Bookish Games, and I was like “what fresh hell is THIS?!” so I cannot imagine doing it on the regular. I hope it gets easier, at least.

The roller skates are awesome! I was always terrible at it as a kid, and a little scared hahah, but it also seems so fun! The only thing I know about Teen Wolf is that JR Bourne was in it, and I love him (funny enough, I am watching him right now too, in The 100, which is MY comfort show hah). Hope you have a wonderful May, and a wonderful birthday!!

    1. Thank you so much! Right?! The block editor can sometimes feel like a nightmare. Hoping I can adapt sooner rather than later. I’ve been on the skates for a month and scared is basically my default. I am always working my way up to confident. Oh yes, JR Bourne is great in Teen Wolf. I didn’t finish The 100 because the writers let me down one too many times, but that’s usually the case when shows run for too long.

  8. I haven’t switched to the block editor yet, and I am definitely not looking forward to it. I know I’m going to have to bite the bullet at some point, but I’m in avoidance mode.

My daughter is having her second dose of the vaccine the day before her birthday, so I hope she doesn’t feel too sick.

  9. YAY vaccines! I started with WP block editor so this is the only life I know, hahaha.

I really enjoyed Falcon and the Winter Solider as well. The pacing was weird at times but it was a great conclusion.

  10. I hope you didn’t have any side effects for your birthday! I know my wiped me out like the flu the next day and then were gone (great April fool’s joke on me). I inline skate and love it, though I haven’t been able to skate in my neighborhood since the roads are in poor shape and need repair. You’ve inspired me to head out to smoother roads now that the weather is warming up.
