Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Books On My Summer 2019 TBR.” Uh, I really have no idea what I’m going to read this summer. Aside from the Latinx Book Club, one ARC, and a couple of buddy reads I have no concrete plans. I was initially going to list books I bought in 2019 that I still haven’t gotten to, but found it too sad. So instead, I’m listing a very tentative TBR because I”m a moody reader who will likely change my mind many times. Covers are linked to Goodreads.

1. With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo – Starting with a 2019 read that I am determined to get to. The Poet X is one of my favorite books (and we’re reading it for the Latinx Book Club in July!), so I don’t know why I haven’t shoved everything aside for this one.

2. House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig – I feel like I’ve had this ARC for a really long time and I’m finally going to read it. It’s a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, which is one of my favorite fairy tales.

3. Interment by Samira Ahmed – I love ARCs but sometimes they can get in the way of new releases I’m also eager to read. That’s what happened with Internment. I fully intended to read it when it was released, but just never found the time.

4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab – I should probably work on my backlist TBR and this is one I’ve been meaning to get to for years. YEARS. It’s also one I feel like the community as a collective has been screaming at me to pick up already.

5. Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo – This contemporary looks like the absolutely perfect read for the summer. I can’t wait to smile my way through this one.

6. For a Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig– Oh the guilt! I’ve had this one for too long and all I hear is amazing thing. Why haven’t I read it yet? I will this summer…I hope.

7. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – I think it’s about time that I get my heart broken by Adam Silvera again. I’m kind of ready for it. Hahahahaha…I’m never ready.

8. We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal – I started this one last week and then hit a major reading slump. Nothing appealed to me. But sometime this summer, I’m going to restart this.

9. The True Queen by Zen Cho – Oh no, some more guilt! I must pick up The True Queen. It’s one of my most anticipated 2019 releases and yet I still haven’t picked it up. I’m so ashamed.

10. Courting Darkness by Robin LaFevers – I reread the original trilogy earlier this year because I wanted to pick this one up and then I didn’t. Epic fail. I must pick it up this summer. I might fail again.

Are you eager to get to any of these as well? Which backlist book on your TBR are you planning to read this summer? Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave me a link to your own TTT post, so I can visit.

  1. Great list! Please read Vicious soon, please! I swear you won’t regret it. There’s probably nothing I can tell you about it that you haven’t heard before, so just do yourself a favor and read until page 60 or 70 and see if you can stop then. I got We Hunt the Flame from Owlcrate and I fell in love with the cover and the blur. I hope I get to it soon. Happy reading!

  2. I DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS MORE LAFEVERS. So thank you for letting me know! I really enjoyed the original trilogy. I plan to read With the Fire on High very soon too, and I hope you love Internment, Vicious, and They Both Die at the End as much as I did. I always liked 12 Dancing Princesses too, so I’ll look for House of Salt and Sorrows now. Great list!

  3. I definitely need to read Vicious. I have the book, just need to read it. Yet it didn’t make my summer TBR. Hopefully I’ll be able to read more than 10 books this summer and I can read that one too!

  4. Great list! I want to check out With the Fire on High – that cover is gorgeous – and Vicious is one I keep meaning to get to, too. We Hunt the Flame, The True Queen and Courting Darkness are all on my TBR – I need to read Sorcerer to the Crown and Mortal Heart first, though!

  5. You have a lot of books on here I would like to read as well. I still haven’t read anything by V.E. Schwab yet. The shame! I read They Both Die at the End a while back and liked it, but had hoped to see more of the interesting setting. Haven’t read any of Adam Silvera’s other books though.

  6. Ooh I love Vicious. I need to read Vengeful, and I’ve had that one since it was released. LOL My sister has a copy of Internment, so I need to borrow that from her at some point. I also own They Both Die at the End and I need to finally read it since I’ve read Adam’s other books and loved them.

  8. With the Fire on High is definitely in my top ten TBR for the summer or, if I don’t do that, at least before the year is over. Ah! I’m so excited for it. Also, I hope you enjoy Courting Darkness when you get to it! I reread the original trilogy earlier this year and it was fun to do so before jumping into Courting Darkness.

  9. SO many great looking books on your list! I can’t wait for your thoughts on We Hunt The Flame and With the Fire On High. Those both sound so good. I also really need to finally read Vicious. I feel like it’s been on my TBR forever. Happy reading!

  10. Oh my gosh. I just checked out the audiobook for With The Fire on High (and on hold is We Hunt The Flame) this past week. I’m so excited for it since I adored The Poet X.

Internment is so great! It’s heartbreaking and thought provoking. They Both Die At The End is amazing. Omg, your heart will be shattered. I have loved everything Adam’s published.

Somewhere Only We Know made my list as well!

I seriously need to get to one of Heidi’s books. I have The Girl From Everywhere audiobook checked out.

I only picked 2019 books for this week’s TTT but for backlist checked out, there’s also Little & Lion by Brandy Colbert.

  11. Hi fellow mood reader! I made a pretty tentative list, only 6 books since I really want to commit to those books while still having much needed wiggle room. Love your list, I definitely added some of your books to my own list. Happy reading!

  12. I just finished reading the His Fair Assassin series so I should probably read Courting Darkness before I forget everything! I hope you enjoy your summer reading!

  13. Hallo, Hallo Alicia,

I’ve just returnt back to TTT this week as officially its been a meme I loved the concept of but it took me this long to sort out how to join it! Mostly as I tend to have an overage of interest for the topics and never realised it was okay to run over the 10x limit inasmuch as sometimes offer a shorter list, too. Just finding my feet with the meme with some encouragment from fellow bloggers — whilst this week I decided to announce my intentions behind #MyYASummer and quite a heap of it is spilt between backlogue reviews + fantastical fiction!

I was overjoyed I was the first person @ my library to check-out “We Hunt the Flame” — as I had such an epic horrid week I never had the chance to pick it up — still hoping I have time enough before it is due back to read it… I do understand what you mean about running into a rut or having life just affect your readerly life to where you cannot commit heart/mind to anything you’re attempting to read – that felt like me this past week. If *one!* more thing went wrong, I swear… it really pushed me to the edge but of course, we all have to just draw more strength and know it will pass at some point!!

I hadn’t heard of “Somewhere Only We Know” til I started visiting TTT the past few days — I know the song, of course, but not the book! lol

I struggle finding Contemporaries without such overt vugarlity inclusive to them; that’s why I cancelled my audiobook library loan for “Red, White & Royal Blue” when I read a review mentioning how much strong language was inclusive. I’m just not into that… a sprinkling, okay, but repetitively? #JustNo This is one reason why I read a lot of Contemporary Roms either through Harlequin Heartwarming, Love Inspired Suspense, Contemporary INSPY Romance/Women’s Fiction or I seek out Contemporary Women’s Fiction and certain authors of Contemporary Romance. I’m a hybrid reader of INSPY and mainstream fiction but there are moments where I think today’s Contemporaries are pushing my tolerances…

You could say all the books on my Summer TBR are backlist titles – except for a handful! lol I am happy I’ll be adding more points for #Ravenclaw as I’m doing #BeatTheBacklist this year… 🙂
