Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Books That I Refuse to Let Anyone Touch.” I don’t like to lend books out to people. I’ve had people lose my books, forget they ever borrowed a book and they’ve gotten rid of it, and had them returned to me in less than mint condition. I’m the only one allowed to damage my books. That being said, there might be some exceptions, but these are ones I will absolutely not make an exception for.
1. Any New Book I Get – I’m always a little bit protective of books when I first get them. I’m very careful with them and would never even consider lending them out to someone without me first reading them.
2. My Jane Austen Book Set – Maybe the prettiest set of books I will ever own. I got a great deal on these a few years ago and I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who’s touched them.
3. My P&P Illustrated Edition – This is my favorite P&P edition to date. I absolutely adore the illustrations and would fight you if you ever tried to take it away from me.
4. HP Box Set – This is my only HP box set, though I have drooled over many (many many) others. I’ve never read them and have only taken them out a few times for pictures.
5. HP illustrated Editions – Somehow I was roped into collecting these each year they’ve come out. They are so lovely and I fully intend to collect all 7. I’m really eager to see how thick books 4&5 will be.
6. Any White Books – I love how white books look, but I live in constant fear of dirtying them. I have removed jackets while I read just to ensure that I don’t and have taken the extra precaution of washing my hands right before I handle them.
Do you have any box sets you hold dear? How do you feel about white books? Do they make you nervous too? Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your TTT, so I can visit!
HP Illustrated set made my list too! The Jane Austen set is incredible, so jealous. I would slap someone for even breathing on it LOL

Lol, I like the way you think.

My daughter removes the book covers when she read her books because she doesn’t want to dirty the book covers. Ha! My TTT list this week

The only “truly” white books I have are the Jenny Han Lara Jean books. The rest look to ecru to mean. Sounds weird, but for the Bookstagram photos, sometimes I want a pure white spine! 😉

I’m kinda leery of lending books out to sometimes- I worry about them while they’re gone!
That Jane Austen set looks very nice!
I’m kinda careful of my white books too haha!

Oh that pride and prejudice edition is so pretty. Will you do a post about how it looks on the inside? I’d love to see that some time.

Maybe I’ll do an Instagram post of it. It’s so beautiful inside as well

I don’t really get nervous with white books. I’m not too protective of my boxed sets (although I only have a few). Your Jane Austen books are pretty.

I totally understand your desire not to lend new books out. I don’t do that, either.

I don’t really have book box sets or many white books! I can’t say I’ve ever really thought about white books getting dirty, but like I said, I don’t have many!

That Jane Austen set really is gorgeous so I don’t blame you one bit for not sharing. I can’t wait for the next Harry Potter illustrated book. I hate that they skipped one putting one out last year.

Yeah, but understandable because of the size.

I never thought about new books, but that’s a definite yes. As well as anything I haven’t actually read yet. Lost too many books over the years that way.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

Oooh your Jane Austen book set is gorgeous! I can definitely understand why you wouldn’t want anyone reading that. 😉 I don’t think I’d lend anyone my boxset of A Darker Shade of Magic, or my red editions of Vicious and Vengeful – they’re just too precious!

Thanks so much! I don’t even read them, why would I let someone else?

I wouldn’t share any of these books either. I did think your white book thing was unique. I had never thought of that! I might have to do that one in the future.

You should work in the archives and rare book collection section of the library. ☺️

I just read a book where the MC is raised in a library with rare books that whisper to you and it was grand.

I almost have a heart attack when someone asks me to lend them my books 😂😂 I can never lend my Harry Potter books nor any books I’ve been gifted. It’s hard enough lending books that are not even special 😣 anyway, great post❤😊

I know! How do you say not on your life, but in a nice way?

I also don’t like to lend my books. Like you said, I’m the only person allowed to damage them. If I had such a pretty Jane Austen book set as the one you own, I’d keep it in a safe. Those editions are so beautiful! *.*
Happy readings! 😉

Great list! Those Jane Austens are so pretty, I can understand why you wouldn’t want to lend them out to anyone. It’s so frustrating when someone doesn’t take care of a book they’ve borrowed!

Yes, really makes me blood boil.

I am amused by the topic this week, because I am rough on books. I thought my daughter was going to kill me when I read her ToG ARC. I cracked the spine, but since we are not really collectors, she got over it. Your pictures are beautiful by the way.

I have very few collectibles and rarely lend out my books! Actually, I don’t even remember the last time I lent out a book. I don’t think I could ever lend my A Song of Ice and Fire box set, and my Wheel of Time series! I also got this gorgeous hardcover of Wuthering Heights I would not be able to part it.

I love those collectible hardcover editions of classics. I’m sure your new Wuthering Heights edition is beautiful

I also worry about my white books! It seems, particularly when taking bookstagram pictures, that even the tiniest black spec acts as a beacon—drawing all attention to it. It’s so annoying! But I love white books because they make for really interesting pictures.
I so want to read that illustrated edition of Pride and Prejudice! I’ll definitely have to give that one a look!

Yes! And it’s always after you take the picture that you finally notice the imperfection. It’s such a pretty edition, thinking of doing an instagram post on it.

Oh wow, those Jane Austens are amazing! I’d love to have any or all of them on my shelves! I have the illustrated HPs as well, and I don’t let anyone else touch them. 🙂

I think they are only available from third parties, so I feel so lucky to have them.

I don’t really like lending my books out to anyone either. Especially my older sister, because she always damages them or loses them. Her dogs even chewed up one of them. I am the same with new books. I don’t like lending out books that I just recently get. I also don’t like lending books out with the jackets. I usually take them off if I am going to lend it out lol. I usually take them off even when I read them myself.

Lending them out without their jackets is probably the most practical thing I’ve heard today.

The Jane Austen books you have are so pretty! I can definitely relate because there are certain books that I’d love to have friends read, but with the copy or edition I have, I just can’t lend them out bc I want to make sure it stays in good condition 😅📚

I have the HP illustrated books, and I’m SO tempted to buy another box set (the one I have, I let my oldest read when she was younger, and she didn’t keep them pristine—I knew it would happen, so I’m not mad or anything. But I’m definitely tempted by some of the newer box sets). Love your Jane Austen set, too!!

You should do it. If I didn’t own them individually, I’d probably get a box set. Thank you!
