*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.

“I’m losing some faith here.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll get you back to Tah’s in one piece.” I open the driver’s side door and climb in. Kai gets in on the passenger’s side. “Assuming nothing goes wrong.”
Rebecca Roanhorse’s Trail of Lightning was my favorite read of 2018. It’s got some of the best world-building (post-apocalyptic world + fantasy elements based on Navajo idealogy), action scenes that had me on the edge of my seat, and well-rounded characters I need more of. Nothing I write on it can truly do this one justice, but you can read my review here. Cover is linked to Goodreads.
From the Goodreads Synopsis:
“While most of the world has drowned beneath the sudden rising waters of a climate apocalypse, Dinétah (formerly the Navajo reservation) has been reborn. The gods and heroes of legend walk the land, but so do monsters.
Maggie Hoskie is a Dinétah monster hunter, a supernaturally gifted killer. When a small town needs help finding a missing girl, Maggie is their last—and best—hope. But what Maggie uncovers about the monster is much larger and more terrifying than anything she could imagine.
Maggie reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, and together they travel to the rez to unravel clues from ancient legends, trade favors with tricksters, and battle dark witchcraft in a patchwork world of deteriorating technology.
As Maggie discovers the truth behind the disappearances, she will have to confront her past—if she wants to survive.
Welcome to the Sixth World.”
I still need to read Trail of Lightning. I’ve heard nothing but praise for it.

I’ve had this one on my TBR for a while. I’m definitely going to get to it next month though, cause I’ll be using it for a reading challenge. Enjoy!

Probably not for me. Apocalyptic stories frighten me a little, although I have been known to read them. Gorgeous cover. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “LATE IN THE DAY”

Sometimes they can sound a little too plausible.

I read this one but wasn’t blown away. I’m glad you enjoyed it. This week I am spotlighting Whispers Under Ground by Ben Aaronovitch as I try to finish a series I just discovered. Happy reading!

This really isn’t my genre but I love the sound of the 56. It sounds like there’s some humor mixed in with all the action.

“It’ll be fine. Assuming it isn’t not fine.” Maggie, you are a fantastic comforting presence. (She’s a treasure and this is making me want to do a reread…)

I think I’ve been wanting to do a reread since I finished this one. Definitely want to see if I can squeeze it in before the sequel comes out.
