“That’s when a sparkle caught my eye. I glanced up and there she was. Monday. Standing near the bread aisle. Even with her back to me, you couldn’t miss her unmistakable denim jacket—the one with the red striped collar and rhinestones. The one I gave her. My knees gave in and I collapsed against the cart.”
Tiffany D. Jackson’s sophomore novel, Monday’s Not Coming, about a girl who disappears and the only one who seems to notice is her best friend, is a troubling and captivating mystery. You can read my full review here. Cover is linked to Goodreads.
From the Goodreads Synopsis:
“Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried. When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.
As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?”
Sounds like a fascinating book. I’m intrigued. I’m reading Someone by Alice McDermott this weekend.

I love the name of the character so much. I don’t read a lot of mystery/thriller books either, but Tiffany D. Jackson is a master at them.
Oh yes, there’s a bit of a Bon Iver feel to this song. Not a bad way to start my Saturday, thanks!

This sounds so intense! I mean, really, this poor girl must think she’s going crazy if even the missing girl’s own mother won’t give her a straight answer!

It is definitely emotionally driven, but it all unravels so well. Yep, doesn’t bode well for Monday or Claudia when the mom won’t tell her where she is.

Just by the cover I would have put this down to being a typical YA and passed it up but I’m so intrigued by both the blurb and the 56! Sounds like a great read!

Did you hear the news this week that police in a town where her first book was on a summer reading list, are suggesting that the parents ban The Hate U Give because it doesn’t shed a good light on the police. Book banning is alive and well. My quotes from The Virgin Suicides

You are thinking of Angie Thomas, not Tiffany D. Jackson. But yes, I did hear the story and I am not surprised.

What an interesting name–Monday? That was not what I was thinking when I read the title. Am I the only one? 😀 The quote is quite intense. Is it from Claudia’s POV?

When I initial heard the title, I thought it meant something else as well. Yes, it’s from Claudia’s POV.
