Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. and is currently being hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Books I Decided to DNF (did not finish) too Quickly (are you questioning your DNF choices on any books? If you have a policy to not DNF, put a spin on the topic to make it fit you.).” Honesty, I don’t spend too much time thinking about DNF books. I usually figure out pretty quickly if a book is for me or not. I don’t tend to keep track of DNFs and in many cases if I only get 15 pages in, I don’t really count it as a DNF. As it were, it would be really hard to come up with ten books to fit this week’s topic, so I will be doing something a little different. I’m listing the last ten books I checked out from the library that I never ended up reading. Sometimes this means that I gave it a chance, but we didn’t click, other times I just ran out of time and had to return it, and in some cases I just didn’t feel like reading that particular book at the time. Covers are linked to Goodreads.
Have you read any of these? Should I give any particular one another shot? Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own TTT post in the comments, so I can visit.

That’s a very clever twist on this week’s TTT. It’s completely relatable. I don’t discuss DNF because those are rare for me. And if I do have one, I don’t like to shine a negatively light on books that I haven’t completely. I just feel like I don’t have the whole story (get it 🙂 ) to review it.

I never feel invested enough in DNF books that I care to discuss them. Sort of a out of sight, out of mind kind of thing.

I had such high hopes for I’ll Give You The Sun, but I ended up not being impressed by it. I personally don’t think you’re missing much!

Oh no, that’s too bad. My desire to pick it up has dwindled since checking it out, so not sure if I’ll ever be requesting it again.

Oh man, I do this CONSTANTLY. Partly because I can book hoard for free, but then I get so many there’s no way I can get through them all. I love Saga and I’ll Give You the Sun. Yaqui Delgado is okay, but I much prefer the author’s Burn Baby Burn. My Sister Rosa is creeeeeeeeepy.

All the book hoarding without the price tag. I think libraries need to change their catch phrase. I love Burn Baby Burn, it’s the reason I want to try Medina’s earlier work. I like creepy…

This happens to me a lot!! I think I can read faster than I really do when I’m checking books out– and then books I was SO excited to read have to go back without being read 😦 I totally LOVED I’ll Give You the Sun. Also, BEASTS MADE OF NIGHT and WICKED LIKE A WILDFLOWER have beautiful covers!!

Yep, I always end up walking out of the library with one too many books. I love those covers too!

Sometimes this happens with me too. And guess what? I put aside Saga after a few pages thinking I will come back later and I never did

I think I even checked out the first couple of volumes. It was when I was in a slump and I just didn’t feel like reading them at the time.

Saga is one that I’m not as excited about as a lot of readers are. I mean it’s okay but it didn’t wow me? And Markswoman I was curious about… never did get to it.

I think you might be the first blogger I’ve come across who isn’t enthusiastically jumping up and down about Saga. I waited a long time for my library hold of Markswoman and then ended up never reading it. Tragic.

It’s alway hard to DNF a book, especially when you want to love it. I did enjoy Markswoman, it was a little slow at start but did pick up.

That’s really good to hear. I think I maybe read the first page of that one, but I had other books I had to get to at the time and just never got a chance to get back to it.

First of all, excellent twist on this topic. I wish I had thought of it. Now the books. I read two of them up there, Wicked Like a Wildfire and I’ll Give You the Sun. I loved them both, with IGYTS being one of my all time favorites. My problem with library books is that my holds come through, and I have no time to read the books, so I return them, because I feel guilty having them checked out, while other people are waiting.

I sometimes return mine when I could potentially renew them because I feel a little guilty about hoarding them, especially when there is only a single copy in circulation.

It usually happens to me when I pre-order a physical copy. I’m so excited when I’m waiting for it,practically checking my mailbox every few hours but by the time it actually arrives I’m not in the mood to read it. Like Forest of thousand lanters is sitting on my sleves since last October in the package it came in.
Great list! My TTT: https://fantasyraiders.wordpress.com/2018/06/05/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-shouldhave-dnf-ed/

Oh my gosh, this is so me. I am currently on a library ban, so I can get to all those books I’ve bought that I haven’t gotten to yet. Forest of a Thousand Lanterns is fantastic by the way, you should open that package.

Nice topic for this week Alicia! I don’t really DNF books either, but I’ve come close a few times recently with The Smoke Thieves and The Beast’s Heart. I really want to read Saga and I’ll Give You The Sun, but I just haven’t got round to them yet. Markswoman also intrigues me, but that’s lower down my TBR and I’ve seen a few reviews saying it wasn’t great so I’m not as fussed about getting to it soon. Great post for this week!

Thanks so much! Same here with Markswoman. I want to read it, but since it’s release I’ve only come across a few really positive reviews for it.

Oh this happens to me a lot. I either run out of time or not in the mood for it. It’s the worst when it is something the was on hold for forever, finally comes in and then I don’t want to read it! Great topic!

Yes, I hate that feeling and then I end up feeling really guilty about it because I was so excited before. I suppose it’s better than buying it and then having your enthusiasm wane before you ever pick it up. Thanks!

For some reason when I get books from the library I NEVER finish any of them. I’ve given up! I haven’t read any of those, but i started Saga.

It doesn’t happen too often with me, but there have been times where I’ve checked out multiple books and didn’t read any of them.

When I was in the YA section at the Barnes and Noble on Sunday, the title Done Dirt Cheap stuck out to me! If you didn’t know, it’s a lyric from an AC/DC song. Before it comes the the line “Dirty deeds.” It’s kind of mobster-ish! I love that song. Anyway, I didn’t look at the cover because I wasn’t really planning to buy anything, but I have to say, I love what I see here. And I love motorcycles. Okay, now I’m rooting for this book. It HAS to be cool!

I did not know that! I think the book has something to do with crime and informants. I haven’t seen too many reviews, but all the ones I have seen have been good.

I like the change of topic. I haven’t read any of these but I do recognize them all. I’ve heard great things about Saga but remain unsure myself if I want to pick it up at some point in the future. Wake of Vultures looks interesting.
I’ve brought two books unread back this year so far to the library (but this is because I try not to take more than 3 books with me at the time either).

Saga has been on my list of graphic novels I want to read, but I think I have to be in the mood for it. I haven’t seen too many Wake of Vultures reviews, so I think that’s why it’s not too pressing for me to check it out again.

I love this post!!! I do this all of the time. It’s so sad. Just not enough time in the day.

Right?! And it always seems that all your holds come in at once, making it almost impossible to get through them all.

Most of these are new to me but I bought Ghostland new in hardcover because it seemed like a book written just for me and after 100 pages I ended up DNFing. I was so sad!

Saga. Definitely try Saga again. Hands down fantastic, heartwrenching, moving, engaging, with gorgeous art and a story that doesn’t let you go.

I am so that person that buys a book before reading what I already have at home, lol. I am such an indecisive person when it comes around to deciding on what to read next. I’m a bit of a slower reader, I read when I can so I might take way longer to finish a book than others. Currently, reading Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. Amazing read so far, still have about 80 pages or so before I finish it.
I have so many books I want to read this summer. The Leftovers, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, It’s Kind of A Funny Story, Dietland, to name just a few. I probably won’t end up sticking to that list, like I mentioned I’m indecisive usually, lol.
I’ll try to check out your list of books, always looking for new books to read. Great site by the way!

I have accumulated far too many books this year when compared with how many I’ve read. It’s hard to stick to a list when you are a moody reader. I am hoping to get to a few myself, but know I will stray from any list. Thank you!

I read My Sister Rosa and really liked it. But if you don’t like disturbing psychological books, then I wouldn’t recommend it. Thinking about Rosa still makes me wince a little.

I like your spin on this. It’s a bit unique. As for your selections, I don’t think I’ve read any of them with the exception of I’ll Give You the Sun. And it wasn’t my taste (it wasn’t necessarily bad, either) and all that jazz. Great list!

Yaqui Delgado has been on my tbr since forever and I’m still interested in it but I just haven’t been able to get around to it. The same with I’ll Give You the Sun. My co-blogger, Veronika, read and loved My Sister Rosa, though. Hope you still do get around to some of these someday!
