Monthly Wrap-Up: April ’18

MonthlyWrap-UPI…don’t know what happened in April. I felt that I started out the month strong reading-wise and then I just got super busy and found it really hard to make time to read. I somehow managed to read four books in April which is the least amount of books I’ve read in a month so far this year, but it still feels like it’s an accomplishment because I wasn’t sure I would get through two. I finally took steps to revamp on old feature (new posts for this will go up in May) and started working on the Summer 2018 Comment Challenge which will be open for signups starting tomorrow (so come back to the blog to find out more!) April just went by so fast for me and I don’t have much to say about it other than now that it’s over, I can’t believe it’s already May.

(Book covers below are linked to my reviews, unless otherwise specified.)

Favorite Book This Month:

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland was amazing. It might be my favorite read of the year so far. My review for this one goes up in a couple of days, so be sure to look for that. Cover is linked to Goodreads.

Least Favorite Book This Month:

No book this month received less than three stars from me.

Notable Blog Posts This Month:

Kernels of Nonsense: Giving the Feature Both More and Less Direction – I’ve decided to modify this discussion feature on my blog and hopefully this means you will see it more often.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday: Undead Girl Gang – I actually got a chance to read this one a little early, so look for my review this upcoming week.

Can’t-Wait Wednesday: The Way You Make Me Feel – I am so excited for Maurene Goo’s latest contemporary novel. I need it now!

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Wish Were More Popular – Shout out to all the authors that I think deserve more love in the community.

Reading Challenges:

Aside from the Goodreads challenge, I’m only participating in one reading challenge this year.

1. The 2018 Debut Author Challenge is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This month I read one debut book: To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo.

  1. April did blow past so quickly! It’s really hard to believe it’s May 1st already. Where is this year going?! I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read Dread Nation or not, but since you loved it so much I’m definitely adding it to my list!

  2. I can’t believe it’s May, either. Where does the time go?

I’m looking forward to your review of Dread Nation! I have to admit it doesn’t sound at all my cup of tea (zombies), but if you say it’s the best book you’ve read all year…

I’m looking forward to Monday’s Not Coming as well! I’m not too up-to-date on May releases, but I know Anger Is a Gift is coming out, and that was the best book I read last month.

  3. Based on this post, it looks like you did a lot in April! During the school year especially, I only review one book per week, so to me that sounds quite normal. How many books would you ideally read per week?

    1. If I say seven, would that be absurd? Really, I’d like to read at least seven books in a month (o about two a week), but I’ve been averaging about five per month. I might have to adjust my Goodreads goal, just so I don’t start panicking about not meeting it.

      1. Do that. You’ve got other things going on in your life. And it’s not that READING 2 books per week is hard, it’s REVIEWING. If you like to exercise or walk a pet, you can also get into audio books. I have 2 audio book reviews coming up because I listen on my commute.

  4. April has probably been one of the fastest months of the year so far. It’s great that you were still able to read four books even with ending up being really busy. I am looking forward to From Twinkle too!
