Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and is currently hosted on That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is “Bookish Resolutions/Goals.” Yes, goals. I’m really excited about this topic, not because I have a bunch of lofty goals, but because I have a bunch of mediocre ones. I’m hoping my 2018 will give me more freedom to read and explore more books I want rather than always trying to meet some goal. Wish me lots of luck!
Do we happen to share any goals? Any goals that you didn’t meet last year that you’d like to meet in 2018? Let’s discuss in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own TTT post, so I can visit.
Nice goals. I love how you designed your post too. Middle grade novels are so much fun. I’ll wish you luck with buying less books if you’ll do the same for me. 🙂 Good luck with all your goals.

Thank you so much. Middle grade novels are a treat. I don’t think I picked one up in 2017. Of course. Wishing you lots of luck buying less books this year!

First off… love your graphic, Alicia! So fun and cute.
Secondly, your fifth and eighth goals? SO MUCH YES! I’d love to read more books from my shelf vs. feeling the exclusive “pressure” (not the right word because I do love reading new books from publishers) of review books. Also, I’d like to get back to regularly visiting all of my fellow and amazing book blogger’s blogs. It’s always a fun way to meet new people and to discover common fangirl interests. 🙂
Happy 2018, and best of luck!!

Thank you! I thought I’d do something different with the list this week. I must do more blog hopping this year. I also love discovering new blogs and getting a chance to interact more with those wonderful bloggers I already know.

I loooove the way you formatted this! We share a few goals, like buying less books and reading more of what we already own, so hopefully we can both stick to our goals and kick TBR butt this year, haha!

Thank you! I’m hoping my 2018 habits will result in more shelf space so I can buy more in 2019. Ha!

I definitely want to re-read more. I used to reread loads until I started blogging. Then I worried if I was rereading. I hope you achieve these goals!

Rereading is such a pleasure. I always love it when I do get a chance. Hopefully I will find the time this year. Thanks so much!

Reading non-fiction and re-reading books are on my list too! For your magical realism recommendations: Everything All At Once by Katrina Leno has baby hints of magical realism; The Gallery of Unfinished Girls by Lauren Karcz was great

You are not the first blogger to recommend Katrina Leno. Definitely will be looking into her books. I think Gallery was on my TBR at one point, will have to add it back. Thank you so much for the recs!

One book that I loved last year which is magical realism is All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater. I can’t remember if you found that one yet, or not.

I have some issues with Stiefvater’s newest novel, so I’ll be skipping that one, but thank you anyways.

Buying less books and reading more books of my shelves are things i for sure struggle with each year, haha. But I hope you will succeed this year! I love the graphic you did for this by the way. 🙂

Yeah, I think these might have been goals I had for last year two >_< Thank you so much!

Re- reading and reading more of the books sitting on my shelves- those two are big for me. Good luck with these- great list! 🙂

I only reread two books last year and I’m so sad that I did no get the opportunity to do so more. Hoping to pick up more favs this year. Thanks!

Same here about rereading and keeping up with my blogger planner! I keep a small notebook to jot down my blog post ideas. If you like slightly creepy and out there magical realism, check out At the Mouth of the River of Bees and St Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. They’re both lovely short story collections.

I’ve had St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised for Wolves on my TBR. So I’m glad you mentioned. I love slightly creepy books, so looking into the other right now. Thank you so much for the recs!

Yes! Read books I own. I read 352 books last year. Only 25 were from my shelf. That’s horrible! I actually own a LOT of books. Magical realism is my second fave genre, and I would love to read more of that too. I used to think MG was not for me, but last year really opened my eyes to what wonderful MG books are out there. Good luck with all your goals!

Oh yeah. I don’t even want to look at the numbers or how many from my own shelf I picked up. I love magical realism, but I don’t pick it up as often as I’d like. I love MG books, especially the whimsical ones. Thank you!

We share a few of the same goals and I wish us both luck in the coming year.

Reading more middle grade novels was on my list this week as well. I don’t think they get enough attention in general.

I read so many in the past, but just got caught up with all the other releases last year. I bought a few at the end of the year, so hoping I can get to them.

Love the graphic, very cool! I am also doing the GR challenge, trying to read more books I own & more rereading this year. I tried to do the less book buying one in 2016 but it failed spectacularly!

Good luck with buying fewer books – I should but…… I envy that you enjoy magical realism so much. I struggle with it. I do need a good recommendation for a challenge though – any recommendations?

Haha, you never know, I might fail to buy less. I love magical realism. I don’t know why the genre speaks to me so much. High on my list will always be Anna-Marie McLemore. All three of her books are wonderful, but I think When the Moon Was Ours is the most beautifully written.

Nice goals! 3,7 and 5 are definitely on my list too. I loved how you have designed your graphic.

Love the way you set your post up! Hopefully I can stick to buying less books. I know I am known to go crazy with it from time to time. I need to read more of my own books too. My unread books list is so huge right now that it’s so overwhelming. I tend to keep buying or checking out from the library instead of reading what I already have, ugh. Your list of goals are perfect, good luck with them!

Thank you. I think making an effort to read more of my own books make keep me from buying more. At least I hope so. I check out from the library so much that I’m going to try to restrict myself to only a couple a month. Also something I’m hoping I can stick to.

#5 is hard, but it’s got to be done! At least for me. I had it one my list, too. Good luck this year!

Good luck with all of your challenges!

Nice resolutions! I’d really like to tackle my tbr more too. I’d also like to read Schwab’s books. But really I just want to read more consistently throughout the college semester since my reading has usually been reduced to required reading for classes. -_- I hope you have some good magical realism finds! That sounds like it could be fun. 🙂

My fav is IQ84 but its a bit long… Sputnik sweetheart is a good one! Kafka on the Shore gives you a real good idea of his flavour 😀!! Hard boiled wondeeland is quite good! South of the border, West of the Sun was one of my first ones by him and I loved it!! I would recommend not reading Norweigan Wood before a few others by him ! Hope that helps 🤣

If you’re serious about magical fiction, you’ve GOT to read People of Paper by Salvador Plascencia. Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43603.The_People_of_Paper

Good luck with your goals. When it comes to magical realism I think that nothing can beat Haruki Murakami`s novels, he`s my favourite author. Although I have not read it yet, Bone Gap is supposed to be great.

These are great goals! And yes we share a few: I want to read more non-fiction also and have a couple books at home to start with… which would also help with “read more of what I own” haha. More rereading, more historical fiction, consistent commenting are other goals I’m striving towards 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha, yes, I think as bookworms, we ironically have a hard time reading more of our own books. I want to comment more too, but it can be really hard to do all the blogging and then keep up with everyone at the same time. Blogging’s hard.
