Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is “Holiday Gift Guide freebie (ten books to buy the YA lover in your life, 10 books to buy for your dad, etc.).” I wasn’t sure how I was going to approach this week’s topic until I realized that I’ve been spending a lot of time looking up books to buy my niece and nephews (two eight-year-olds and an eleven-year-old). So I thought I’d share with you some of the books I’m considering for Christmas gifts. Covers are linked to Goodreads.
Have you had the pleasure of reading any of these? What’s the last kid’s book you bought? I’m open to more suggestions if you have a recommendation for my niece and nephews (two third graders [boy and girl] and a sixth grader [boy]). Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own TTT post, so I can visit.
Brilliant list Alicia. I always recommend Roald Dahl for bookworms or for any child really! A magnificent writer!

These look like good picks! I loved Roald Dahl as a kid. And that Jedi Academy one looks fun also.

Great list! I can still remember the books my parents got me as a kid, so I think it’s wonderful you’re spending time looking up books to buy your niece and nephews. I still need to read A Wrinkle in Time actually, and I especially want to now that the movie is being made 🙂

Thank you! Sharing my love for books with them has been such a rewarding experience. A Wrinkle in Time is one of my all time favorite books and I am so stoked for this adaptation.

Great list! I’ve been planning to give either Matilda or A Series of Unfortunate Events to my kid cousin. Hope she likes them!

Great list! I just bought a bunch of kid’s books for my daughter’s 9th birthday last week! Her favorites are the Land of Stories series, anything by Raina Telgemeier (Sisters, Smile, Drama, Ghosts, etc), and Nate the Great. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is another popular one, as is almost any graphic novel she can get her hands on! Serafina and the Black Cloak is another popular one in our household.

Raina Telgemeier is a popular author right now (or so I hear from my nephew). I need to check out Land of Stories. I believe it features twins, right? My niece and nephew are twins, so I’m sure they’d get a kick out of that. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is also popular with this lot. I loved Serafina myself!

I have A Wrinkle in Time on my list too! And Harry Potter is one that I’m getting my son, just not Goblet of Fire. We’re getting the new illustrated editions to read to him at night. Got the first one and on to the second!

I love the first illustrated edition of HP. It’s so beautiful! Hoping I find the second under the tree this year.

Unfortunately the kids in my life are all still too small to start reading.. Or too old to buy cute books like those for 😉 I would definitely give them Rowling & Gaiman, and I’d love to introduce them to Star Wars as early as possible haha, good choices!

Oh no, there are still cute board books you can get for the littles. Thanks!

Great list! I think the last book I bought for my daughter was a Bad Kitty book by Nick Bruel. My son is a big Star Wars fan so the Jedi Academy has been on my list of books to get him.
