*Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader.
*Find any sentence (or a few, just don’t spoil it) that grab you.

“His father died the following year. And because pf that terrible incident with his mother…he was only fourteen when he took the throne. Fourteen and alone. I’m sure you have an idea of what came after.
It took me far too long to pick up Renée Ahdieh’s The Wrath and the Dawn, a retelling of A Thousand and One Nights. With a beautiful setting and great characters, this book is sure to please any fantasy fan.
From my review:
“The people of Khorasan live in fear of their caliph, Khalid, a young ruler who marries a new girl every day. And every morning the new bride is found dead. Shahrzad is determined to put an end to the caliph’s reign of terror by ending his life in retribution for the lives he’s taken, including her best friend’s. As Khalid’s newest bride, Sharhzad knows her life will be forfeit by morning, but she is willing to do anything to survive the night and slay the monster. What Sharhzad did not expect was to find a troubled young man behind the caliph’s stone façade, one who is hiding a dark secret that may change everything.” Read my full review here.
I have been eyeing this book and it sounds fun. I need to get it from the library. Happy Friday!

I liked this book but my students seem to LOVE it. I wish I’d figured out it was part of a series before I got started on it. Very imaginative.

I had this one but ultimately didn’t read it. I had just read A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston which had a very similar plot. I wasn’t ready to read another book that seemed so similar. My 56 this week comes from The Tournament at Gorlan by John Flanagan. Happy reading!
