Top Ten Tuesday is an original blog meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic: “April 14: Top Ten Inspiring Quotes from Books (anything that inspires you, challenges you, makes you think, encourages you, etc.).” Here are some of my favorite book quotes that have stayed with me long after I’ve closed the book.
Ten Inspiring Book Quotes:
1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee:
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
2. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery:
“Marilla, isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”
3. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley:
“Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.”
4. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank:
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
5. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling:
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
6. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen:
“Our scars make us know that our past was for real.”
7. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton:
“Stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold.”
8. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke:
“Books have to be heavy because the whole world’s inside them.”
9. Coraline by Neil Gaiman:
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
10. Son of the Shadows by Juliet Marillier:
“Don’t you long for something different to happen, something so exciting and new it carries you along with it like a great tide, something that lets your life blaze and burn so the whole world can see it? Something that touches you with joy or with terror, that lifts you out of your safe, little path and onto a great, wild road whose ending nobody knows? Don’t you ever long for that?”

Ahh, those are all so beautiful! I hated Anne Frank, but you’re right, it is very quotable. Here’s my TTT: https://victoriajaynesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/top-ten-tuesday-17/

Thank you. I hope one day you can give Anne Frank a second chance because it’s really a powerful book and I’d hate to see you miss out.

I will never say no to a Harry Potter quote, I couldn’t cover my bedroom walls in the amount of quotes I love from the HP series. I really like the Anne Frank quote you have mentioned, and the Inkheart one. I need to be more diverse in my reading, I’m missing out on all the good quotes! Great choices 🙂

These are some of my favorites! I went back and forth on the Anne quote but ended up using another one. Really I could do this entire list just off quotes from the Anne books. I love the one from The Outsiders and the Coraline quote is wonderful. Great list!

Such great choices! I love that Inkspell quote — and the Anne Frank quote is one that I see every single day on the wall of the building where I work. Powerful and lovely.
